All users of a messaging app have to trust that it will behave correctly.

That is, that it will only send messages to the people you intended, not leak your messages, and not allow people to impersonate other senders.

Everyone has to trust the app won't mess it up naively or maliciously.

This is yet another factor on top of the inherent coordination problem, and one of the reasons that so few messaging apps exist.
