  • At some point we'll see the mask-off moment for the aggregators.
    • The aggregators act all cuddly and friendly.
    • But that's only because they know we're stuck and can't leave.
      • It's a mask.
    • Under the covers, their business is powered by taking your data hostage.
    • When we are no longer OK with that, when we reclaim what is ours, the knives will come out and they will no longer look cuddly.
      • If they're just a dumb, faceless data lake, they won't make as much money off of you.
      • Becoming a dumb data lake will be an existential loss for them.
    • It will be a mask-off moment.
    • Last year Slack changed their API policy to make it orders of magnitude harder to extract your own data.
    • That was an opening salvo in what is rumbling along as cold war, but will become a hot one as the power of unleashing LLMs on your data heats up.
