    • The slack helps absorb surprise without a compounding cascade of thrash.
    • It also allows little seedlings of greatness to grow.
    • Don't think of slack in a system as "employees sitting around twiddling their thumbs" or "doing unimportant hobby projects" or "playing foosball".
    • Think of it instead as "doing preemptible work that is important but not urgent."
