Google Search as a centralized service felt somewhat less scary to me than ChatGPT.

· Bits and Bobs 12/8/25
  • Google Search as a centralized service felt somewhat less scary to me than ChatGPT.
    • But why?
    • Both could have outsize impact from just a bit of bias given their scale.
    • Google Search didn't have much individual state, whereas ChatGPT has significant amounts of state.
    • A tool without state is easier to leave than a tool with state.
    • Also, a non-personalized tool is easier to audit at scale.
