How long of a leash should you give someone to prototype in a divergent way?

The answer is related to how likely they are to find something great… and how likely they are to successfully do the deferred convergence work if they find something great.

How likely they are to do both of these things is based on their teammate's priors of interacting with that team mate in the past.
