Humans and LLMs extract insights out of information differently.

· Bits and Bobs 8/24/26
  • Humans and LLMs extract insights out of information differently.
    • Humans don't just passively receive information; they interact with the world to tune their information streams.
      • They can do experiments and see how the world reacts.
      • That allows identifying not just correlation but causation.
      • "I did X and Y was the result."
    • If you only passively receive a stream of information, you can only extract correlation.
    • Humans are not great at extracting data from samples because we are compute bound, but we can do experiments.
    • Physics is insanely parallelized; we can do an experiment and watch how the universe responds and then note it down.
      • Computers still can't parallelize physical calculations to the extent that the universe can.
