I learned this week that AOL talked about cyberspace, not the web.

That was a deliberate marketing decision.

The web, if it became powerful, would supersede AOL.

So they wanted a generic term that didn't imply the whole open system part.

Chatbot feels like a similar kind of move to me.

LLMs will create a new valuable world-spanning open system, and it will not be a chatbot.
