I love this frame of strong-link vs weak-link systems.

  • I love this frame of strong-link vs weak-link systems.
    • Most problems are weak-link problems.
      • If a single component fails the whole thing doesn't work.
      • This means all of the focus is on improving the weakest link.
    • Some special problems are strong-link problems.
      • Only the best link matters; everything else can be ignored.
      • This is one of the characteristics of antifragile systems.
      • Science, evolution, capitalism, etc.
    • Strong-link systems are ones that have massive distributed computation, with memes, organisms, companies, products fighting it out, and the best rise to the top.
    • A kind of emergent percolation sort.
