Money collapses a lot of the realness of human experience into a legible, single, efficient metric.

That cleanliness gives the metric massive leverage but also makes it hollow out the thing that the money is about.

Money can make people do crazy things; things that are completely at odds to what they would have done without the money.

But of course money is an enormously important and powerful coordinating force for society.
