Multi-agent systems are able to use the power of the swarm.

Typically the strategic benefit of the swarm was that the energy of the swarm emerged from each individual's own incentives and you didn't need to pay them.

Now the swarm is more like a series of very-easy-to-direct-and-coordinate employees.

Agents you foot the bill for but don't need to give precise direction to and who can figure things out a bit themselves.

A middle ground between mechanistic systems (e.g. computers... everything has to be extremely precisely defined) and real people (where they have their own incentives)
