"Porcupines shoot spines" isn't true, but what's the benefit anyone gets from testing that assertion?

Porcupines don't shoot spines… but also their spines are much more likely to catch you from a surprisingly far distance if you aren't careful, so why get close?

Metaphorically true, as opposed to really true. But still helps the right thing happen.
