The value proposition of Notion and AirTable is less clear in the world of vibecoding.
It used to be that software was expensive, so having a horizontal, flexible collaboration system for text and simple structured data was useful.
An individual use case couldn't have a bespoke tool, so it was better to have a generally configurable horizontal tool.
But Notion and AirTable charge a ton for what you get, and are predicated on users getting more and more stuck in the system and harder and harder to get themselves out.
Also, you were limited to the kinds of semantics you could express in that intermediate representation.
Now, it's cheaper to just make a custom bit of specific (and much simpler!) software for your specific use case.
The people who were technical enough to configure their own AirTables are now technical enough to vibe code their own bespoke solution.
