  • This week I learned that left-handers sometimes think about where they sit in order to not conflict with other eaters.
    • When everyone is right-handed at a meal table, everyone has exclusive space to their right, and no conflicts happen.
    • When a left-hander and a right-hander sit next to each other, there is a zone where they can each crowd each other.
    • Right-handers only experience this when sitting to the left of a left-hander.
    • Left-handers experience this nearly every time.
    • As a result, left-handers will sometimes seek out seating positions at the left edge of a table.
    • This is a thing that has literally never occurred to me in my life, since it so rarely affects me.
    • Another example of how privilege, even small amounts, is invisible to the beneficiaries.
