  • When building a new game engine, there's the "first triangle" milestone.
    • The moment where all the underlying subsystems are working well enough to collaborate to put a triangle on the screen.
    • That moment is a huge milestone for the team, who know there's now a stable foundation to continually tighten, extend, and build on top of.
    • But to everyone else, they go "... it's a triangle. What am I missing?"
    • The work to get to that first point of convergence, when all of the parts of the frankenstein are stitched together and the monster takes its first breath, is exhilarating for the mad scientist working on it, and a non-event for everyone else.
