When does it make sense to add more lines of code to handle an edge case?

· Bits and Bobs 8/31/26
  • When does it make sense to add more lines of code to handle an edge case?
    • If you need to add 1000 lines for a very rare edge case, then it's not justified.
      • If you keep on doing this, you'll end up with 1000x more code than you need; an impossible to maintain and extend mess.
    • The more common or dangerous the edge case, the more lines of code that are justified.
    • There are some architectural moves that add 1000 lines of code… and then destroy a whole class of edge cases.
