  • When trying to grab people's attention with your writing, you have to stand out from the average.
    • For example, imagine getting a grant application reviewed.
    • Try to think of all of the other things in your category the reviewer will see.
    • Imagine the average of all of those.
    • That's your landscape you need to stand out from.
      • The priors.
    • Whatever is surprising based on that baseline is your payload.
    • Your thing will feel automatically special to you, but that doesn't make it special to others.
