  • When you accept mentorship, you are putting your development in the mentor's hands.[ih]
    • You have to trust them to not contort you into something that just benefits them.
    • They're helping point out a path for you that you can't see (or can't take) yourself.
      • Cult leaders take advantage of this.
    • If they put you down a dangerous path, you wouldn't necessarily know.
      • One reason why it's good to see your mentors as role models in all aspects of life, not just in one dimension.
      • Otherwise you could fall into a trap of "The way to get a marginal benefit in your work life is to pay absolutely zero attention to your family."
