When you get a bit of feedback from a manager, "cut off your arm to fit in this part of the machine better".
Is that feedback to help you improve as a person, or to be more useful to the machine?
Often a given thing is good for the employee and good for the company.
But when they differ, is the manager operating in the interest of the machine or the employee.
Is the manager acting as a compassionate human with integrity, or as a meat puppet for the machine?
Managers in an org who show they are a person, not just an appendage of the machine, earn trust.
For example by giving employees advice that helps them thrive, not necessarily what is best for the machine.
