The systems that have truly kafkaesque outcomes are often composed entirely of people who are individually very smart... and know it.

If you know you're not smart in a given context, you'll be on the lookout for ways you're wrong.

If you think you're smarter than everyone else, you won't seek out as much disconfirming evidence.

More threats will become "dogs that didn't bark" kinds of threats, creating an overall more dangerous situation.
