Expectations are high when the creator says "I think this is a good thing and you should use it."
Users blame the creator (rightfully) if they don't end up liking it.
But when the creator says "I think this thing sucks but if you want to use it feel free to crawl through this broken glass" and it sucks the user can't blame the creator.
That makes the thing more resilient to the downside risk of users having such a bad time that they never use it again.
Self-capping downside.
