Human organizations today are layers and layers of human smoke tests.

Many of them are redundant, but any one of them could raise their hand and say "hey, this doesn't look right."

Similar to the chain mail of prediction loops.

It's expensive to have them constantly spinning, possibly even wasteful.

But the spinning is what keeps them in a critical state, able to respond and adapt.

The ability to respond requires being in a critical state, and a critical state is active, often expensive.

Adaptability is infinitely valuable; it's what makes the thing alive, able to grow and become stronger from disconfirming evidence instead of worn down by it.
