Productivity rule of thumb: do tasks that need to "bake" first.

· Bits and Bobs 11/4/25
  • Productivity rule of thumb: do tasks that need to "bake" first.
    • Bake here means, a task that requires wall clock time before it's done, and that once started can make progress even when you aren't actively paying attention.
    • Examples of "baking":
      • Handing off a task to a subordinate.
        • Starting a Claude Code task.
        • (Not that different!)
      • Literally baking a cake.
      • Kicking off a long-running database query.
    • These kinds of tasks get closer to being done the sooner they are started, so start them before you do the other tasks, so they're baking while you're working on other things.
