To improve, you need feedback.

  • To improve, you need feedback.
    • Otherwise you 1) don't realize there's anything wrong with your model and
    • 2) don't know the gradient to improve it.
    • A boss getting feedback from a report is hard.
      • Because the boss can fire the report.
    • So the report softens their feedback, which might make it too subtle to be received by the boss.
      • Everyone wants to want feedback, but feedback–hearing something is wrong–is hard, so when you're mad or scared or stressed you subtly discourage it.
    • The more intimidating the boss, the more likely they are to lose their cool and fire someone, and the more that people won't share the feedback.
    • It will be a super-critical state, ready to shatter.
