Two mental models for software: robot and a plant.

· Bits and Bobs 2/2/26
  • Two mental models for software: robot and a plant.
    • A robot has its own form of motive force, even though it's not its own agency.
      • It is an automaton, it doesn't have judgment.
      • You wouldn't give a roomba a power drill and then leave it alone in your house.
    • A plant has agency but minimal motive force.
      • It grows on its own, but never in a way that can harm you.
      • A plant will never eat you or mow you down.
