- They could try to switch to an approach where the only way 3P's build on their platform is mainly by extending their 1P surfaces.
- A classic aggregator play.
- I imagine OpenAI wants to do that.
- But can they pull that off?
- If they tried, they'd hand off all the inference business to the other providers, who are just as good.
- It would be an AOL-style move.
- But the open ecosystem would surpass their closed system because there are high-quality platform alternatives that would allow an open ecosystem on top.
