When faced with a too-large scope, it's easy to get stuck bickering about which path is most expedient.

But if the scope is too big, if the novelty is too high, there's no viable path through the jungle.

Bickering about which path to take will just waste your time.

The only answer is to massively reduce the scope to something that is viable, and also will get you closer to the other side of the jungle.
