You're never not swimming in the kayfabe of whatever org you're in at the moment.
Some orgs have more or less acute kayfabe (distance from ground truth), and different orgs will have their own particular flavor of kayfabe.
But every org has it, at least a little bit.
Kayfabe, within that org, is in some serious sense, "real" in that it is inescapable and you can't ignore it.
But as soon as you leave that context, it goes from being important to being completely and totally unimportant (and actively dangerous), because the kayfabe of a particular organization only exists in the context of that particular organization.
To be a supremely successful cog in any particular machine you have to completely and totally surrender to its kayfabe.
