A useful concept: MAYA
Maximally Advanced, Yet Acceptable
There's only so far beyond what is currently acceptable that people are willing to go.
The further from the status quo, the more you stick your neck out to do it.
The further from the status quo, the less likely it is to work.
The further from the status quo, the more costly it is.
Both to execute it, but also the recovery cost if it fails, which is inherently higher.
You might also have to explain your actions to everyone doing it the normal way.
That can be annoying, but in some cases it can also lead to actively being punished.
MAYA is the threshold that sets the bounds of the iterative adjacent possible in what kinds of ideas might work.
Things that are beyond the MAYA threshold are noise; impossible to cohere.
