Isn't it kind of weird when ChatGPT uses the first person in its answers?

When you talk to a person you'd never say "I'm just talking to a collection of synapses."

We can all agree that the collective, the emergent phenomena of all of the synapses creates something larger than the sum of its parts: a person.

Also,that the person is more important than any of their constituent parts.

Work by Ian Couzin shows that the same algorithms that schools of fish and the neurons in our brain use to decide between multiple options can both be fully modeled as the same algorithm: ring attractor models.

But we think of the brain as one thing, and the school of fish as a swarm.

Which do we pay more attention to: the collective or the individual?
