My four-year-old son has become increasingly funny.

· Bits and Bobs 3/30/26
  • My four-year-old son has become increasingly funny.
    • It started as a slight thing we noticed, but as he approaches his 4th birthday, it's becoming impossible to ignore that he's funny and goes out of his way to be funny.
    • How much is that intrinsic personality revealing itself as he matures, and how much is the environment pulling it out of him?
    • His personality looks like it's something pushing up on its own but it's actually also being abducted.
      • A push and pull in balance creating an emergent, unmistakable move: an ouija board.
    • Imagine the mechanism.
    • When he's very young he does something small that's funny and we respond with delight.
    • When he does it again, other people do, since now he's funny, and it generates even more delight.
      • The fact it works for other people shows it's robust, not an accident.
    • So he keeps on doing it, trying out different things to see what gets a laugh.
    • It keeps on iteratively growing, pulling it up, abducting it, and accreting, and then ossifying into a personality.
