You don't have to be cynical to not point out that the emperor is naked.

It's rude to point it out.

Another relevant question: how invested are you in the emperor being ground-truthed?

If he's just some other random person, then pointing it out is all downside.

If you feel tied into his fortunes–you do well if he does well–then making sure he's ground-truthed becomes more important.
