Setting a shared infinite can help a team cohere.

· Bits and Bobs 6/23/25
  • Setting a shared infinite can help a team cohere.
    • Making an idea "sacred" fixes it in place.
      • It can never be traded off.
      • It's infinite, sacred.
      • Often identities become wrapped up in the sacred value.
      • Debates can unconsciously feel like "you're attacking my identity," which can pre-charge conversation.
    • Shared infinities are a good coordination mechanism.
      • Even though they make certain discussions impossible.
      • Also, when you share one, certain trade offs become impossible to acknowledge, let alone make consciously.
    • The constraint creates coherence, it gives the terra firma to build off of.
      • Otherwise there's too many free dimensions, nothing can cohere.
    • Some of the infinites that are most important to us are so deep and unquestioned that we don't even realize they exist, it's just water to us.
